Match Report: BRFC - Llandaf

Date: 15/03/2008 Venue: A Result: 7-17

At the beginning of the match, BRFC is very motivated. Our welsh players are proud to play on their ground and especially in front of their family. The ball is very slippery and there are a lot of scrums. Our pack seems to be as strong as Llandafs one. Our scrum managed the feat of turning back the opponent on 10 meters. At the back, Barks foot put back the opponent on his field and Eudes disrupt the defenses with his runnings. Nethertheless, Llandaf is better organized on lineouts and rucks, and win a lot of balls on these phases. After 20 minutes, Llandaf manage to penetrate our defense and score a try (by Jones). Before the half time, BRFC tries to score, but a lack of organization or may be sometimes an excess of individualism prevent BRFC score despite a large dominance. What I call individualism was both a lack of collective organization on the last five meters and the great motivation of some of our young players who wanted to perform before their family. For me, the first half is marked by the great performance of the pack, especially Sean and Steve in 1st row and Bez in 2nd row. 5-0 at the half, victory is still possible. Llandaf scores a 2nd try (by Williams) at the beginning of the second half (10-0). Then Daz, as a good scrum half, decides to speed up the game. His best action of the match remain this penalty quickly played and concluded with a beautiful hand off just in front of the public. He might have been disturbed by the presence of Bezs sister (or her spanish friend) in the assistance, I dont know. After a 3rd try (by Lewis) for Llandaf (17-0), the second best action of the match should be the very impressive tackle that Bez done to one of his opponents. The last ten minutes were very hard for our first row because Llandaf decided to toughen scrums. At the end, Eudes saved the honour by scoring a try all in finesse. 17-7 final score. As I was busy helping the referee for lineouts and trying to seduce Bezs sister, I couldnt see all the details of the match. But I think that Quentin would be disappointed if I didnt mention his great defensive performance on 2 of 3 welsh tries. I cant judge because, as he is always injured, it was the first time I saw him play. Private joke of course. Seriously, even if I didnt see all the BRFC matches, I think that this match may be the best one of the year and certainly the best I saw in Tour. With more organization to clean rucks and to win our own lineouts, the victory should be possible. Thanks to people (especially Ned and Bez families) who support the team, because it was not very easy with this rainy and cold weather. And a special thanks for Cabin Mum, who clean our dirty jerseys after the match. Man of the match : for me = Bez for Eudes = himself Marsou
