Match Report: BRFC - RC Vélizy Villacoublay

Date: 06/12/2008 Venue: H Result: 3-23

How do we start this ? Hard to tell, for I definitely can’t understand why such an excellent team is not able to produce results. Motivation was there, a good pre-game inspiration session, a rarely-seen line-up as well, but we failed to deliver our promises.

Not everything can unfortunately be blamed on line-outs, as we managed, at least before yours truly got mad and lost his focus, to win quite a few one of these. Not everything can either be blamed on what our dear President would courteously designate as ‘‘ces P..és de 3/4’’ after a few of their knock-ons.

The fact is we faced yet another relatively well organised team  that plays as a rather cohesive unit. The fact also is that the supposedly (he told us so after the game) half-English side of the referee allowed him to only 80% screw us. The fact is, finally, that we again lost our nerves against a bunch of chit-chatting-cheating-unnerving forwards who had us want to hurt them more than to play . This proved particularly silly, for this was (not very surprisingly, though) the precise moment where we started taking an advantage in this game  -  namely the beginning of the second half. One of them, a whining and insulting idiotic Swine they cleverly disguised as a Prop ended up with a big lump on his little head and big tears on his little cheeks after he did, for the eighteenth time in a row, something really stupid  - quite unluckily  for us (or for me, for it was never my intention to hurt anyone – wink wink), the ref considered that as a bad gesture and sanctioned it with a nasty red card.

Oh well, what is done is done, and it is our duty to look upon a promising future in the new year. We need each other on the pitch and out of the pitch if we are to succeed as a Team – each and everyone’s mobilisation in the Club is essential, and I believe commitment is key to our salvation.

We will start rejoicing about the idea of filling our bellies with large amounts of end-of-the-year greasy specialties and not-so-cheap bubbly booze after we win next Saturday’s game.

Final score : Velizy-Villacoublay 23 – 3 BRFC

Man of the Match : Nobody really deserves to be

Special thanks to : Ben, Rio and Seamus, for excellent and promising first performances

Villains of the Match : Number 4, who really looked like a Shar-Pei and was dumb as a brick, and my good friend Number 1 on his constant grunts and insults, which earned him a reward
