Match Report: BRFC - MBDA SPORT

Date: 10/10/2009 Venue: H Result: 30-10

First League win of the season, and what a great feeling it provided compared to last weeks close loss.

Having struggled to assert ourselves on the pitch last week it was good to see all the hard work done in training this week come to fruition on the pitch. There wasn't a moment in the match when it really looked like we we would lose, and we upped the tempo when it was needed and scored at exactly the right moments in the game.

From the kick off we worked hard and fast and through playing sensible rugby and retaining possession we worked ourselves into the right areas of the pitch for Mark to score from a clever chip and chase from Quentin. "50% of team Lovejoy" converted to make the score 7-0 to BRFC, and then kept the score board ticking over with a well taken drop goal and a huge kick from around the 10 meter line.

MBDA showed why this will be a hard league with a lot of teams with big packs, and put us under a lot of pressure, scoring both their try's in the only manner they knew how the rolling maul.

From the moment they scored their first try though we pretty much took the game by the scruff of the neck. Strong running in the midfield by Alex and Charles gave us forward momentum and good targets for the forwards to work off, the back row of Fred, Paul Nick and then Ned was everywhere stealing their ball, putting in big hits. And a very special mention must be made for Eudes who played a great game out of position at prop yet still managed to make his trade mark big hits and thundering runs. Well taken try's for Tom from a tap and go, and two excellent team based try's for Sam and Colum put us out of danger, and another fantastic performance from Neal focusing the pack at exactly the right moment in the game gave us momentum going into the last 20 when they may have fought their way back into the game upfront.

Final score: 30 - 10

Overall it was a good win, that we worked very hard for, in both training and on the pitch. As I said on Saturday it really was a team win, with everyone on the squad not just the starting 15 really putting everything into getting us there. Man of the match is Fred at openside, closely followed by Eudes, Alex and Tom. But this really was a team performance for all involved with BRFC.

So we have a good win, and are 6th in the league after two games. We play a good team next week and we need to keep up momentum, which means we need to keep training. We showed what we can do when we all make it to and work hard at training so please put in a big effort. Forwards especially on Thursday when Jamie will be there and will be able to really help us improve once again.

Many thanks for all of your efforts this week
