Tough game that one, and while by no means our best performance this season, it was an important win. The ref was quick on the whistle the whole game, but very consistent with his decisions and both teams were shown White cards in the first half for persistent infringements at the breakdown. Once that was done, things settled and we started to play a bit, but if we are honest with ourselves we probably never got above 70% in this game. We kicked well from hand at the set pieces, and used the slope and wind to keep turning them, some excellent chasing from Colum, Sam and Yan put their wingers and 15 under a lot of pressure and this is probably where we won it. Kicking for the corners and then chasing well, and big defence when they were in possession stopped them getting any kind of momentum, To be fair to PUC they played a very good game, but in the wrong parts of the pitch where as we played the game in the right places and soaked up pressure when it was on, scoring a couple of good tries at exactly the right moments. Colums opening try being a great example of our team work on the day, just working the phases, keeping pressure on and then when the time was right moving it into space, where Colum showed his trademark strength to finish well under a lot of pressure. Their try and our second try came from mistakes under the high ball on a greasy day, and Johns follow up to put their 15 under pressure pretty much typified our performance today. No thrills, keep going, take the opportunities when they are their. Good games from a few people, Yan on the left wing made a lot of good runs and saved a try with determined chasing back. Sam on the right constantly put his oppo under pressure and worked hard at the breakdown, Colum and Paul had barnstorming games at 12 and 13, but Man of the match was John, who kept working hard all game, tackled from start to finish and got in amongst them, and scored a try at the crucial moment. So all in all another win, not our best by any stretch, but it was important, and more importantly it was a true team performance. Past that well done boys. It's been a decent start to the season, we've worked hard when we needed to and we've got better as the season has gone on and gelled well as a team, which is the thing that's winning these type of games for us, and as coach I couldn't have asked for anything more. Rest weekend next Saturday, but training is still on, so make sure you attend. we have a few things to work on and we don't want to lose any momentum with the annoyingly placed break in the schedule. cheers
